Angela Moore, MPH, BA, CPH

Data Analyst

Angela received a Bachelor of Arts in English and an interdisciplinary major called Medicine, Health, and Society from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Public Health concentrating in Health Behavior from the University of Kentucky. She received her certification in public health from the National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) in 2011. Angela began working with CANDLE in 2011 as a Research Assistant, conducting clinic, home, and phone visits with participants. She now works as one of the Research Data Analysts maintaining the CANDLE database, ensuring quality data, and performing statistical analyses for research projects using CANDLE data.

Thuy Nguyen, MPH, BS

Data Analyst II

Thuy received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Health Services from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from San Diego State University. Thuy began working with CANDLE in 2012 as a Data Analyst I. She is currently a Data Analyst II and she coordinates all ancillary studies as well as the other data analysts.

Praveen Potukuchi, B Pharm, MSc, MS

Data Analyst

Praveen joined CANDLE as a Research Data Analyst in October 2013. He conducts statistical analyses for research projects using CANDLE data. Praveen earned his B. Pharm and M. Sc Bioinformatics degrees from Utkal University and OUAT, India. He received an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences from UTHSC, Memphis. He is also currently pursuing a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy from UAMS, Little Rock (expected to complete in July 2014).

Yanhua Qu, PhD, BS

Data Analyst

Yanhua received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from JILIN University of Technology, China, and a PhD in Computer Science and Intelligent System from Oita University, Japan. Yanhua started working for the Department of Preventive Medicine in 2007 and joined CANDLE in 2011. She is interested in programming, Web APIs, and database development. Currently, she is focusing on applying statistics to modeling, and quality control of CANDLE data.

Lauren Sims, MPH, BA


Lauren completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has worked on the CANDLE Study since October of 2010 and has simultaneously worked towards her Master of Public Health Degree at the University of Memphis, which she completed in May 2013. She currently coordinates the clinical and data collection aspects of the study, including training of all CANDLE research assistants. She also leads retention efforts by finding exciting ways to keep our participants engaged in the study. Her research interests include obesity in children, especially as it relates to their cognitive and social development.

Maureen Sorrells, MPH

Study Coordinator

Maureen is the CANDLE Study Coordinator. Her duties include managing the day-to-day operations of the study, IRB and regulatory submissions, and project coordination. Maureen is a graduate of Rhodes College and the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She began working with CANDLE in 2007 as a Data Analyst, and transitioned to the Coordinator role in August 2012. She has enjoyed watching the study grow and develop over the past few years and is excited to see the impact it will have on her adopted hometown of Memphis, TN.
